Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Loss of the "Barham". DESCRIPTION: The film has now been released of the sinking of the battleship ‘Barham’, which went down with the loss of 859 officers and men in 1941. The ship was hit by a salvo of torpedoes from a German U-boat and within four minutes was listing heavily. Then her after magazine went up and she sank immediately. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Line ahead battleships. Library Material - Aerial shot over Weymouth, shows Nelson, Rodney, etc. & other large ships, during review by the King, (unseen). Various shots of battleships ploughing through seas, water breaks over bows, destroyers escorting, A/C "Furious" at sea. Several warships off Gibraltar. Rock can be seen in background, one of these warships believed to be the "Barham". GVs of "Barham" listing to port, slowly turning completely over, when masts are parallel with water, terrific explosion aboard ships (special shot - please don’t lose same), pan of smoke rising from water. Various shots (library) aboard several warships, crews lining the decks, silhouette of warship with sinking sun (sunset) in background. Silhouette of naval officer looking through binoculars to finish.
