Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Ruins of Berlin. DESCRIPTION: Film taken at the beginning of May shows the first pictures of the Russian occupation of Berlin. In parts of the city resistance groups were still trying to hold out. Many of the buildings are in ruins but one of it’s famous landmarks, the Brandenburg Gate, remains intact. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Ruins panning shot. Various shots of the ruined and burning city. Flames belching from windows. Streets littered with wrecked tanks, equipment etc., signpost lying in shell hole "Unter Den Linden". Shot looking towards Brandenburg Gate. Shot of Berlin’s "Whitehall" in ruins. Tilt down of Borsig Palace ruins, through ruins can be seen a picture of Hitler on wall. Various shots of the remains of the Reichstag. Red Flags fly over a lot of buildings. Brandenburg Gate still standing, tilt down to Russian troops walking around the city. (There are a few shots of Germans clearing ruins in this story). Russian directing traffic. Various shots of the remains of Berlin. The Adlon Hotel, horse drawn carts can be seen everywhere. Heaps of rubble everywhere.
