Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Battle of the Rhine Crossing Men of Arnhem. DESCRIPTION: The Allied Army of the Air which crossed into Holland was mostly borne in gliders and there were many crashes and bad landings. These are the first pictures to be received from the area of Oosterbeek and Arnhem itself. They were taken by Army Film Unit cameramen between 18th and 22nd of September. SHOTLIST: Cut story - AFU - Aerial of glider in flight into camera. Various aerials and ground shots of paratroopers falling to earth. Paratroops hitting ground, turning over etc. C47 plane crashes, explodes and catches fire. Various shots of gliders landing, some turning over. GV calf in front of glider. AFU - Airborne troops take arms from canisters which have been dropped by parachute. Troops in jeeps along road. Troops march along road, also transport. AFU - Infantry on march along road. Airborne bring in prisoners. GV thousands of prisoners in field. Paratroops & Airborne troops carry off wounded on stretcher. Troops at field wireless and field telephones. Mortars being fired. CU order of ‘fire’ given. Signpost "Grave" also shot of bridge in grave area. Shermans move across same. Prisoners on march and in field. GS Nijmegen bridge. Various shots of bridge. Airborne & paratroops remove dynamite from bridge. AFU - Various shots of bridges across the Waal including the Nijmegen bridge. Cromwell tanks pass over bridge, dead litter the pathway. Elevated shot of bridge.
