Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Blasting the Reich (Mannheim Raid). DESCRIPTION: Last September a big force of our bombers attacked the twin towns of Mannheim-Ludwigshaven, the second largest inland port in Europe. The targets were the docks, the goods yards and the Lanz Engineering Plant. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Interior shot of briefing. Dusk shot, silhouette of crews to Stirlings, various shots of Stirlings taking off, into camera, out of camera, etc. Aerial shot of them in flight, except for first scene the above are night shots. Target (aerial shot) indicators bursting on sheds at Limoges, a type of phosphorus bomb, sprays out. Still of same as it bursts. Map of Europe, Germany in black, GV map of Mannheim & Ludwigshaven area. CU detailed map of same shows rivers Rhine & Neckar. Aerial night shot of fires, flares, incendiaries falling, with occasional scenes, showing the above superimposed on same. Map with black line across shows direction of aircraft. Aerial night shots of photo flashes, parachute flares falling, & as aircraft leave fires, aerial shots of same burning.
