Summary
Pathe synopsis: Today, quite simply, Pathe Pictorial climbs a treacherous mountain called the Matterhorn, just a hundred years after an Englishman named Edward Whymper first conquered this deathly pyramid of rock. Seven men set off through the Alpine flowers and foothills. Only three came back alive. We see the sheer three-thousand-foot rock face where they fell. We see their graves in Zermatt and we set off from this Swiss village with Sir John Hunt to climb the dizzy, slithery ridges, in a scurry of snow. With ice-axe, climbing ropes and crampons we reach the summit and etch the most breath-taking view of a silent snow-capped world into our unbelieving memory.
