- Summary
- Pathe synopsis: We’re among snow-clad mountains. Alpine peaks like the Matterhorn, which generations of men have given their lives to climb. But, today, this remote splendour is a tourist’s paradise - with tea-cups and cafe-tables at twelve thousand feet on a mountain top. The tourists have now laid claim to the crests that once mocked the mountaineers. They leave their cars outside Zermatt, the jingle-bell village that looks like a Christmas card. Then they set off to climb the crests - by cable car and cog-wheel railway, by chair-lift and aeroplane. We soar like birds to dizzy heights - without moving a muscle. We climb into the perpetual snow - while sitting down. We travel by snow-cat right under the very summit of the Matterhorn. But then we set off on foot, through the virgin snow, with ice-axe and ice-cool head for slippery rock to scale the final heights. And this brave journey is the exciting subject of a subsequent issue of Pathe Pictorial.
