Summary
Pathe synopsis: Practically all the year round, the cockle fishermen sail out from places like Leigh-on-Sea in their flat-bottomed boats to gather the Cardium edule, popularly known as the cockle. This much sought-after shellfish has a foot with which it burows into the sand, but experienced cocklers know just where to find them and on a good day a man can collect up to a ton of them.
