Summary
Concorde 001. At last the big supersonic bird flew, and flew just as the computers had predicted - perfectly. Andre Turcat, Sud Aviation’s chief test pilot and his three-man crew made aviation history when they took the Anglo-French brainchild up to 10,000 feet and had her ticking over smoothly at 300 mph. Twenty-seven minutes was all the time they needed to know that she was a good, predictable ‘plane to fly. Pathe News reports in colour on the great day of Concorde 001’s maiden flight.
