Career

Ken Goddard was a Pathe cameraman who also appeared in front of the camera. In March 1947 Pathe News No.47/24 thus featured Len Hutton in ‘PEOPLE IN CAMERA,' and according to the story card ‘he talks to Ken Goddard about the Australians.' In No.47/28 from April 1947 Goddard appeared again in ‘MAX MILLER - THE DEMON BARBER,' where ‘Max Miller does a demon barber act with Ken Goddard as his victim.' In June 1953 Goddard was in the camera team for ‘THE CORONATION OF HM QUEEN ELIZABETH’ in Pathe News No.53/41. He is regularly credited after February 1956, when he helped film ‘FA CUP’ for No.56/10. In February 1957 Goddard appeared in front of the camera for ‘THE NEW VISCOUNT 800’ in No.57/18, being shown flying on the new service from London to Paris, and in ‘AMATEUR CUP FINAL’ in No.57/32 of April 1957 he appeared with his camera. In August 1957 Goddard filmed ‘GIRL WINS CHANNEL RACE’ for Pathe News No.57/69, the story card noting that it showed ‘Ken Goddard standing in water filming man competitor.'

In December 1957 he was shown filming a student rag for ‘THE BATTLE OF BRIXTON’ in No.57/102, where he ‘receives a load of flour straight in his face and on the camera.' In January 1958 he appeared again in ‘TWO DIE IN SMITHFIELD BLAZE’ in No.58/8, and Goddard continued to be featured until ‘R.A.C. RALLY’ in No.64/92 of November 1964, which included shots of ‘Pathe news car with Ken Goddard filming from it.' In June 1965 Goddard was credited for ‘TROUBLE IN THE FAMILY’ in British Movietone News No.1881, although according to Peter Hampton [qv] he only ever freelanced for Movietone. Pathe has film of Goddard working for them in December 1965, but he again freelanced for Movietone for ‘BRITISH GAMES’ in British Movietone News No.1930a in June 1966, and ‘THE CUP FINAL’ in No.1981 of May 1967. After the closure of Pathe News in February 1970 Goddard did more freelance work for Movietone, and is credited for ‘LIFESAVING DISPLAY’ in British Movietone News No.2202 of August 1971. Goddard’s last credit is for ‘CHURCHILL MEMORIAL’ in British Movietone News No.2270 of December 1972.

He also worked as a cameraman on Roundabout, a technicolor cinemagazine made by Associated British Pathe and later British Movietonews for the Central Office of Information. His only known credit for this series is ‘HOVERCRAFT GRAND PRIX AT WOBURN’ in Roundabout No. 82, released in March 1969.
