Career

David Allan was a cameraman who worked for Pathe, his first credit being in the camera team for ‘ASCOT’ in Pathe News No.55/58 of July 1955. Allan’s next credit is as cameraman for ‘LONDON TO BRIGHTON’ in Pathe Pictorial No.430 of March 1963 - a story in which he appeared with his camera and a Pathe camera car. In May 1967 Allan appeared with Stan Goozee [qv] in ‘TOP OF THE TOWER’ in Pathe Colour Pictorial No.648 - a story which seems to have been peopled entirely by Pathe employees. After the Pathe Pictorial closed in March 1969 Allan seems to have transferred to Movietone, where his first credit is for ‘IMMIGRATION BILL DEMONSTRATION’ in British Movietone News No.2184 of April 1971. Allan afterwards supplied Movietone with a number of stories ending with ‘JAPANESE PM VISIT’ in No.2313A of October 1973.

He also worked as a cameraman on Roundabout (1962-1974) and Parade (1963-1973), technicolor cinemagazines made by Associated British Pathe and later British Movietonews for the Central Office of Information. Some of his earliest credits for these series are ‘DAIRY SHOW’, Roundabout No.83, of April 1969 and ‘AFRICAN CENTRE’, Parade No.69, of June 1969.
