A series of DVDs for sale that show real lessons, professionally filmed and edited as they happen, with no stage management and no disruption. There are individual DVDs of lessons covering a range of subjects from Year 7 upwards. The post compulsory lesson DVDs are supplied with reports and judgements made by a qualified Ofsted inspector. Unlike other observations, reports and judgements are based on the video evidence rather than the lesson itself. There are also three new Maths and Literacy lessons at a school that has gone from good to outstanding. Each lesson includes a report and a post lesson review between the teacher and the Ofsted inspector. Lesson DVD packs include a CD with teachers’ lesson plans, lesson report and judgement, evaluation forms, and a range of continuing professional development activities prepared by Edge Hill University. FSM Online, the online version of the now defunct Film Score Monthly, documents film music as an art form. It contains film music analysis, discussion, critical journalism, and the enduring legacy and history of the art of scoring for visual media, but also offers original video documentary series and in-depth audio interviews with prominent composers. Available via monthly subscription, which also gives access to the publication’s print, audio and video archives. A separate section of the site sells the 200+ CDs on the Film Score Monthly record label. These contain historically important original soundtracks from the 1940s through the 1980s, licensed from the Hollywood studios and lovingly preserved and restored for commercial presentation.

Within CERIMES (Multimedia Resources and Information Centre for Higher Education) is the SFRS (Scientific Research Film Service), which is part of the Ministry of Education in France and specialises in providing films for use in Higher Education. Over a 260 films are streamed free online using Flash, and over 2,000 more are available for sale on DVD (Zone 2 PAL) or CD-ROM as well as being available for Mpeg4 download. Most of their material is only available in French, though there are a few exceptions. Also included is an online catalogue of close to 2,000 audio visual and multimedia resources which can be searched by title, personality, year, subject and format.

Free registration allows users to view some of the 100+ films free, in full and at high quality, buy them on DVD or download others very cheaply (via Paypal). Filmmakers can upload their own films free on to the site’s servers, make money when viewers pay to watch their film, have a free directory listing, and post announcements on a noticeboard.

Founded over thirty years ago, Electronic Arts Intermix (EAI) is a non-profit organisation involved in distributing and preserving artists’ videos and media produced since the 1960s. Their website has a full catalogue of their holdings and also contains a number of streamed extracts from the collection which can be viewed using QuickTime. The three thousand or so titles they distribute include works by such renowned filmmakers as George Kuchar, Jean-Luc Godard and Chris Marker.
