This resource presents thousands of animated demonstrations and interactive illustrations, mainly in in science, technology, mathematics but also in art, music, finance and other fields. The website defines ‘Demonstration’ as ‘the interactive demonstration of a concept’ and this broad definition applies to concepts in Life Science, Mathematics, Computation, Physical Sciences, Engineering and Technology, and Creative Arts amongst others.

One of the website’s goals is to bring computational exploration to the widest possible audience, including schoolchildren, students, academics and industry researchers and this is reflected in the sheer range of material available, ranging from a visualisation of Schrödinger’s cat experiment (but with catnip, rather than poison),to an interactive demonstration of the Duckworth Lewis Method - an algorithm used to determine the result of rain-affected cricket matches in a way that is fair to both teams.

The resource and all the demonstrations are free but users need to download the Wolfram cdf Player, which is also free. Users are encouraged to create their own demonstration using Mathematica software.

Led by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in collaboration with a number of international partners, the videos are freely available to stream or download in Quicktime or MPEG 4. DVD and VHS copies can also be ordered. Each lesson consists of video segments, a detailed summary, downloadable teachers’ guides and handouts, a transcript and links to additional relevant online resources. A number of the videos also have voiceovers and subtitles in Portuguese and Arabic. The lessons are organised according to topic and cover Mathematics; Engineering; Physics; Biology and Chemistry. A video introduction by MIT Professor Richard C. Larson, presents an overview of the project.

This website is the project of the 3DXM Consortium, an international group of mathematicians who have used the software 3D-XplorMath to create a gallery of surfaces and shapes in two and three dimensions. These include plane curves, fractals, space curves, spherical surfaces, polyhedra, non-orientable surfaces such as the Moebius Strip and Klein Bottle, conformal maps and algebraic curves. There are also notes in PDF format, examples of mathematical art and a number of moving image files, showing, for example, the development of fractal curves such as Koch’s Snowflake Curve

Coursera describes itself as a "social entrepreneurship company that partners with the top universities in the world to offer courses online for anyone to take, for free". Among the institutions offering courses are Stanford, the University of Pennsylvania, University of California, Berkeley and the University of Toronto. More recently the University of California, San Francisco, Edinburgh University and the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology of Lausanne have joined up to contribute to a list of 116 courses across sixteen categories including computer science, biology, education, literature, medicine, economics, mathematics and other disciplines. None of the classes counts as credit towards degrees at the participating institutions but students do receive certificates for completing their studies. The site includes a pedagogy page which explains the pedagogical foundations on which the platform is built, detailing its extensive use of interactive exercises, quizzes and ‘mastery learning’.
