Chance is produced by the Mathematics Department of Dartmouth College, Hanover NH. Its goal is to support its courses which aim ‘to make students more informed, critical readers of current news stories that use probability and statistics.' The Videos and Audios page includes series of lectures given at Dartmouth in 1997, 1998 and 2000, on such themes as ‘Quantifying the Nature-Nurture Debate’, ‘Probability by Surprise’ and ‘The Risk to Civilization from Exterrestrial Objects’. There are some individual lectures, and some audio files, all of which require Real Player.

Several dozen Reusable Learning Objects (RLOs) made for staff and students at the University of Nottingham, lasting between 15 and 30 minutes, can be accessed here. Topics can be searched by a detailed list and include: Anatomy, Genetics, Maths, Midwifery, Pharmacology, Philosophy, Veterinary Science. Although the site states that it has not been updated since 2008 items are in fact still being added. Although spartan in appearance it remains an easy-to-use and fascinating resource. Scientific American Frontiers is an American television series hosted by Alan Alda and broadcast on PBS. Its site gives the current TV schedule, teaching materials, and a very impressive video archive of past programmes, searchable by topic or keyword. This offers either complete programmes or segments using Real or Windows Media Player, for low or high-band connections, with most having an accompanying transcript where users can click on a particular point in the transcript to access that point in the video. Topics covered include archaeology, astronomy, biology/nature, chemistry/physics, computers/technology, earth science, engineering/mathematics, medicine/health, and psychology/cognitive science. Some have links to PBS web features, teaching guides etc.

The Clay Mathematics Institute supports the study of mathematics and also distributes a number of programmes on video tape. Extracts can be viewed at this site using Real, as well as some hour long lectures which are streamed in their entirety and presented rather better than the usual back of a hall, single camera technique one is used to.
