Launched in 2005, this is now a weekly film podcast and radio program from Chicago hosted by Adam Kempenaar and Josh Larsen. The show starts with a review of a recently released film, followed by listeners’ feedback and then the segment "Massacre Theater", which is a weekly contest that has the hosts performing short scenes of dialogue from various films, with a prize going to one listener who correctly guesses which film it was from. The show ends with the "Top Five" section, which sees each host picking their top five movies that pertain to a certain topic for the week. Episodes available go back to 2012 and can be accessed under the Show Archive section; there is also a Marathons section, where the hosts review six to eight films from a particular genre or director, and a Lists space which groups films under, among others, Top 5, To 20 of the 2000-2009 decade, Top 10s and Year-by-Year lists.

For example, Stuff You Missed in History Class is devoted to the story of Nell Donnelly Reed, which combines fashion, education, kidnapping and marital scandal. Podcasts exploring Studio Ghibli films. Regular hosts Michael Leader-a self-confessed Ghibli fanatic- and Jake Cunningham- a Ghibli newcomer- watch a different Ghibli film each week and then assess the work. The 30-minute episodes follow a similar format: Leader starts with a brief history which covers the basics about the director, how the film was financed and its release; Cunningham then offers a critical perspective, and afterwards a guest joins them to offer comments or give an interview. Created in 2014 by film journalist, writer and lecturer, Karina Longworth, this podcast broadcast the results of different research projects about the secret and/or forgotten histories of Hollywood’s first century. There are some 130 episodes so far, each lasting around 30 minutes; personalities portrayed include well-known stars such as Frank Sinatra, Judy Garland, Katharine Hepburn, Marlon Brando and Kim Novak and lesser known actors such as Frances Farmer, Val Lewton, Kay Francis and Theda Bara. The site can be easily searched via the Archive section and the New Episodes tab. There is also a Film Club which presents the host’s must-see films and other films related to one or more individual episodes of the podcast, and the Book Club or mini-reference library which offers a guide to all the books used to make the programmes.

Cosmic Shambles creates and curates entertaining content about the universe through science, art, history, philosophy, music, literature and comedy. The site was borne out of The Incomplete Map of Cosmic Genome, Utter Shambles and Book Shambles online magazines. A selection of the content from them is now available for free via Cosmic Shambles, but to access the entire back catalogue, which includes over 160 films, exclusive interviews and contributions from 150 well-known names in science, a paid subscription is needed. The free content in the Cosmic Shambles site is presented in the form of podcasts, documentaries, interviews and several blogs. The range of subjects covered is impressive. For example, neuroscientist Dr Dean Burnett explains differences in taste (why some of us love jazz and other hate it?); the life and work of physicist Richard Feynman is celebrated in the documentary All Genius, All Buffoon: 100 Years of Richard Feynman; there is also an in-depth interview with plastic surgeon Fiona Wood who invented the ‘spray on skin’ for burns victims.

This is a unique database of poems written in response to the Lancashire Cotton Famine of 1861-65. Many of the poems are by the mill workers most affected by the famine and are written in the Lancashire dialect. The poems, published by the local newspapers of that time, are presented here with a commentary, audio recitations and musical performances which draw directly from them. This is an ongoing project of special interest for literary scholars and historians. There are some 100 poems collated so far, of which some are of a high quality, according to Dr Simon Rennie. For example, a Work, Lads, and Think by wool sorter Williffe Cunliam. The database can be searched by date, publisher and place of publication.

The cinema as a place of popular mass entertainment towered over Liverpool in the first half of the last century. This left a rich legacy, not only of picture house buildings, but also of the pictures made for an insatiable and loyal audience. This site is devoted to collecting and preserving stories and images from the Golden Age of the Silver Screen in Liverpool: old black and white photographs, posters, handbills, programmes and lobby cards together with interviews and essays bear witness to the important role that cinema played in the lives of the working people of Liverpool. Some of the gems included are: an interview with filmmaker Alex Cox, who visits the Futuristic Cinema and recounts his memories of the first film he ever watched there; an interview with actor Ricky Tomlinson; and the oral histories from the projectionists, usherettes and organ players. The website is a ‘living archive’ which means that anyone with a story about cinemas in Liverpool is welcomed to share it.

A celebration of all things British television from Greg Bakun, an American collector of British television programmes. The website started as a blog where Bakun would write about a randomly selected programme from his own archive. The site has now evolved and offers a series of podcasts on the same subject but with an emphasis on television preservation, restoration and missing material. Episodes so far include an interview with Chris Perry, CEO of Kaleidoscope, a celebration of Tony Hancock, which presents rare audio recording clips from his shows, and an interview with Sue Malden, the first ever BBC Archive selector. Although not easy to find, the site also includes reviews of DVDs.
