This is a unique database of poems written in response to the Lancashire Cotton Famine of 1861-65. Many of the poems are by the mill workers most affected by the famine and are written in the Lancashire dialect. The poems, published by the local newspapers of that time, are presented here with a commentary, audio recitations and musical performances which draw directly from them. This is an ongoing project of special interest for literary scholars and historians. There are some 100 poems collated so far, of which some are of a high quality, according to Dr Simon Rennie.
