Extensive, groundbreaking archive of freely available independent video content from the USA. Media Burn’s mission is to preserve audiovisual records of history and culture and to make them available to anyone who wishes to see them. The archive has been accumulated over the 40-year career of videomaker and tv producer Tom Weinberg. The content derives from Weinberg’s own shows, from work by friends of Weinberg, or from donors including Bill Veeck and Studs Terkel.

This database is the result of a project at the University of Hildesheim, Germany to study how interaction between people from different cultures has been portrayed in film and television. The website consists of a list of around 150 films, with brief synopsis and credits and then a selection of scenes which have been analysed according to a prescribed list of criteria, such as ‘affectivity’, ‘formality’ and ‘proxemics (space and distance orientation)'. One of the programmes analysed according to these criteria is the British television sitcom ''Allo ‘Allo!' which looks at the depiction and interaction of German, French and English stereotypes.

Blog with a scholarly bent devoted to British television drama, ‘from its earliest days to the present day’. An entire section is devoted to the BBC’s Play For Today, consisting of a chronological list of plays, with credits, stills where available, and essays/interviews about individual plays by David Rolinson (who is the site’s creator) and others.
An essay on Alan Clarke, which makes particular reference to Clarke’s ‘Play for Today’ work has been updated to mention the BFI’s 2016 DVD and Blu-Ray release 'Dissent and Disruption’, a collection of surviving stand-alone BBC TV dramas that Alan Clarke directed between 1969 and 1989. Other material on Clarke is available on this mini-site

Site which aims to equip girls and young women with the tools to resist media messages which affect self-esteem and body image. The Gallery of Offenders part of the site is devoted to examples from television and print media (mainly from the US mainstream media, especially advertising) which portray women in a negative, belittling or inappropriately sexual way. The Gallery of Winners, on the other hand, picks examples which are positive, celebratory or progressive.

This resource was established at the University of Kent in 2013 to celebrate, preserve, and provide access to the archives and records of British stand-up comedy and comedians. The information on the University of Kent Special Collections page gives details of the available material, which includes stills, posters, production documents and audiovisual content, in the form of off-air recordings and video recordings of live events. A full catalogue will be made available online in 2016 but until then interested researchers can email the Special Collections team (specialcollections@kent.ac.uk) regarding the collections, which can be viewed in the Special Collections & Archives Reading Room in the Templeman Library. The digitisation is ongoing but some audiovisual content is already available on Soundcloud, including material from Attila the Stockbroker, Linda Smith, Mark Thomas and Richard Herring. The project’s excellent and informative blog provides regular updates about new acquisitions as well as interesting thoughts and advice on audiovisual digitisation on a budget in terms of equipment, funding and workflow.

A full range of academic subjects is covered and many of the films, programmes and clips are not otherwise available on DVD. The site also features detailed analytics so that librarians can more easily assess how the site is being used by students. Subscription is based on paying only for the films which students and institutions actually watch.

Launched in 2016 Screen Plays documents British television productions of plays that were originally written for the theatre. In its current ‘soft launch’ version, it features television productions of theatre plays from television’s first thirty years, 1936 to 1965. There is also a selection of later records which will be added over the coming months. The resource will embrace all productions to date by summer 2016. The site also offers information on the audiovisual and print sources that are known to exist for each of the productions: these include archival production files, contemporary newspaper reviews, scholarly writings, practitioners’ autobiographies and the recordings themselves (both those existing only in archives and those available commercially). Searches can be undertaken by title, series, channel, date, production company, theatre company, and theme (e.g. Africa, mental health, pantomine).
