Blog written by Alistair Nunn in order to record his thoughts and observations as he watches all of the productions in the BBC Shakespeare television series (broadcast between 3 December 1978 and 27 April 1985) in the order in which they were transmitted. Nunn wants to see how well the productions have stood the test of time, as well as to see how filming techniques changed over the series seven years’ span and what effect this had - if any - on the acting and directing styles. Nunn’s comments - which are usually extensive - are always interesting, and although often forthright when it comes to productions he does not enjoy, he generally offers a balanced and sensitive analysis.

Bardbox collects ‘some of the best and most interesting of original Shakespeare-related videos on YouTube, Vimeo and other video hosting sites’. As of March 2017 the number of results returned from a search for ‘Shakespeare’ in YouTube is nearing two million: for this reason the approach of BardBox is necessarily selective. Luke McKernan, who maintains the site, selects videos specifically created for distributon on YouTube, Vimeo, Daily Motion and other sites, and posts the content along with his own comments and details of cast, credits, date and links. An inspired and inspiring resource.

Site gathering information and resources aimed at teachers who wish to use the ‘Mantle of the Expert’ pedagogy developed by pioneering drama teacher Dorothy Heathcote, who lectured at the University of Newcastle from 1950 - 1986. Heathcote’s methodology is based on using drama as a tool to stimulate holistic learning and has been applied at all levels from primary schools to universites, and beyond the academy to management and business training. The site features podcasts, film and video clips, including the 1971 Omnibus documentary ‘Three Looms Waiting’, made by Ron Smedley which explores the life and work of Heathcote.

Blog with a scholarly bent devoted to British television drama, ‘from its earliest days to the present day’. An entire section is devoted to the BBC’s Play For Today, consisting of a chronological list of plays, with credits, stills where available, and essays/interviews about individual plays by David Rolinson (who is the site’s creator) and others.
An essay on Alan Clarke, which makes particular reference to Clarke’s ‘Play for Today’ work has been updated to mention the BFI’s 2016 DVD and Blu-Ray release 'Dissent and Disruption’, a collection of surviving stand-alone BBC TV dramas that Alan Clarke directed between 1969 and 1989. Other material on Clarke is available on this mini-site
