Blog written by Alistair Nunn in order to record his thoughts and observations as he watches all of the productions in the BBC Shakespeare television series (broadcast between 3 December 1978 and 27 April 1985) in the order in which they were transmitted. Nunn wants to see how well the productions have stood the test of time, as well as to see how filming techniques changed over the series seven years’ span and what effect this had - if any - on the acting and directing styles. Nunn’s comments - which are usually extensive - are always interesting, and although often forthright when it comes to productions he does not enjoy, he generally offers a balanced and sensitive analysis.
