    This site provides online access to a selection of the Open University’s materials - images and text-based items as well as audio and videos - as well as functioning as a record and an archive of the OU’s collections. Publicly available collections currently include over 160 images from the Historical Archives Collection, over 100 videos of OU events, such as degree ceremonies and other programmes about the OU, dating back to 1971. OU’s programmes are represented by a series of clips from courses which include science, technology and the arts. A number of online exhibitions have also been created to contextualise some of the material. These include: ‘Shakespeare at the OU’, ‘Harold Wilson and the OU’ and ‘The OU Story’.

    This site complements the ‘Letters Live’ series of live events celebrating the power of literary correspondence. The format of the events is based on artists from various disciplines (actors, musicians, writers) reading letters out loud to theatre audiences. The website features videos of live readings as well as studio-filmed pieces. Amongst those who have participated are Benedict Cumberbatch, Louise Brealey, Joss Ackland, Samantha Bond, Russell Brand, Simon Callow, Gemma Chan, Olivia Colman, Lisa Dwan, Joanne Froggatt, Sally Hawkins, Tom Hiddleston, Toby Jones, Sir Ben Kingsley, Ferdinand Kingsley, Sir Ian McKellen and Kylie Minogue.

    Site gathering information and resources aimed at teachers who wish to use the ‘Mantle of the Expert’ pedagogy developed by pioneering drama teacher Dorothy Heathcote, who lectured at the University of Newcastle from 1950 - 1986. Heathcote’s methodology is based on using drama as a tool to stimulate holistic learning and has been applied at all levels from primary schools to universites, and beyond the academy to management and business training. The site features podcasts, film and video clips, including the 1971 Omnibus documentary ‘Three Looms Waiting’, made by Ron Smedley which explores the life and work of Heathcote.

    The site contains hundreds of television and radio programmes from the BBC’s Shakespeare collection, as well as more than a thousand photos from classic Shakespeare productions. The programmes are only available for streamed playback in a UK educational setting, for example in a classroom, lecture theatre or for academic research. To play the programmes, or see the photos, you will need to prove you are part of a school, FE college or a university, using the authentication box on the site.

    A visually incoherent site (a consequence of downloading text direct from other sites) which brings together an impressive amount of information from numerous sources documenting the life and work of the Irish playwright and novelist. The site lists online texts, literature festivals and events, reviews, articles, and other websites and blogs devoted to Beckett. There are audio and film and television sections which indicate when a recording or broadcast is available commercially on CD or DVD (a warning that these are not always up to date) The site also records material available in other countries and in other languages. A small number of titles are streamed.

    CASP is a research project devoted to the exploration and documentation of the ways in which Shakespeare has been adapted into a national, multicultural theatrical practice. Originally launched in 2004 by Professor Daniel Fischlin, CASP Version 2 was released in 2007 offering more than double the content, including learning, teaching, multimedia, and research resources and pedagogical tools related to how Shakespeare has been adapted into (and out of) Canadian theatre. The multimedia section streams audio and video content.

    The website of actor Ian McKellen, one of the first actors in Britain to establish his own website and blog. The site is comprehensive and informative on his work on stage, screen and radio.     The American Variety Stage is a multimedia anthology selected from various Library of Congress holdings. The collection illustrates the vibrant and diverse forms of popular entertainment, especially vaudeville, that thrived from 1870-1920. Included are 334 English- and Yiddish-language playscripts, 146 theatre playbills and programmes, 61 motion pictures, 10 sound recordings and 143 photographs and 29 memorabilia items documenting the life and career of Harry Houdini. [Figures taken from site 5/2015]. Searches can be undertaken by subject, author and title. The 61 motion pictures in the Variety Stage collection include animal acts, burlesque, dance, comic sketches, dramatic excerpts, dramatic sketches, physical culture acts, and tableaux. The films represented date from copyrights of 1897 to 1920; the majority are drawn from the Library’s extensive Paper Print Collection. The remaining films were produced by Hans A. Spanuth in Chicago from 1919 to 1920 for the series "Spanuth’s Original Vod-A-Vil Movies.
