Visit Dundee
- Synopsis
- A collection archive films about the city of Dundee.
Imagine it’s war-time Dundee. You are in the audience in Green’s Playhouse for a film show about the city, beginning with a short film, The Opening of Green’s Playhouse, from 1936. Dundee (1939), in which a visitor learns about the city’s origins, was premiered on September 3rd 1939, but abandoned midway through when the outbreak of war was announced. Ian Rintoul’s film reconstruction of the Tay Bridge Disaster of 1879 is next, followed by a rare and recently restored film from 1897 of a Railway Journey over the Tay Bridge. The show closes with Children of the City (1943), a look at war-time Dundee as men and women struggle with the twin responsibilities of their families and working for the war effort. - Language
