Religion and Belief: Respecting and Accommodating Faith and Belief Inthe Workplace

Synopsis
A training package dealing with religious diversity in the workplace in light of the introduction of the Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulations 2003.The package offers a guide to the most widely practised belief systems in the UK, including Christianity, humanism, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Sikhism. It features commentary from leading figures such as Caroline Warters of BT, who is also chairperson of the Employers’ Forum on Belief, and Nicola Dandridge, head of equality at Thompsons Solicitors. Individuals explain the importance of their beliefs while experts give advice on the types of adjustments that can be made to accommodate different faith groups.

The programme comes in three parts: Introduction - This provides an overview of religion and belief at work, including legal aspects; Part 1- This documentary section enables viewers to gain an awareness of the most widely practised religions in the UK. It features a number of individuals who explain why their religious and non-religious beliefs are so important to them; Part 2 - This looks at the types of adjustments that can be made to accommodate different faith groups at work including: prayer facilities, time off for religious observance, physical contact, dress codes.
