Knavery’s Plain Face
- Synopsis
- Television schools series in eight parts, examining the conflict between good and evil in medieval and Elizabethan drama. Episode 4 argues that Shakespeare’s plays are not concerned with the power of evil personified as the Devil, but with evil man, the outsiders in the accepted pattern of society. Shows scenes from Richard II and Richard III to illustrate the Elizabethan conception of order in the state and the villain who disrupts it.
