Clueless

Synopsis
High school comedy loosely based on Jane Austen’s Emma. In one brief scene the smart and nonchalent heroine, Cher (Silverstone), in an attempt to assert her sophistication and intellectual superiority over her friend Heather, corrects her when she misattributes ‘to thy own self be true’ to Hamlet.

Heather: It’s just like Hamlet said, "To thine own self be true."
Cher: Hamlet didn’t say that.
Heather: I think I remember Hamlet accurately.
Cher: Well, I remember Mel Gibson accurately, and he didn’t say that. That Polonius guy did.

The dialogue showing that what knowledge of Shakespeare Cher has is learnt from cinema and Mel Gibson.
