- Synopsis
- Part 1: Designed to be shown at an introductory lecture or during a tour of the library ingthe first week of term. Stresses the bulk and alien nature of legal literature and emphasises the concept of the library as a ‘lawyer’s workshop’.
Part 2: Outlines the making of law and describes statutes, delegated legislation and case law, using the breathalyser test as an example to illustrate the progress of Bills, Acts, SI’s and court reports. Lists the main sources of legislative texts - Hansard, Bills, official and commercial series.
Part 3: Divides secondary materials into four categories: textbooks, encyclopaedias, digests and journals, Shows the major publications with examples of the range of types available in all categories. Explains the citation system and shows how to move from secondary to primary sources using citations. - Language
