Synopsis
Traces the growth of Birmingham from the mid-18th to the early 20th centuries, the development of estates and the emergence of craft quarters in the town. Shows different types of working-class housing available for sale and letting refers to changing attitudes to housing reform in London and Birmingham, culminating in the provision of the first council dwellings.
