Synopsis
An introduction to laboratory demonstrating in science teaching intended as training for postgraduate demonstrators and science teachers. Six sections cover: making the student do the work; coaching a student in a procedure, investigating a student’s theory; students summarising the arguments behind an experiment; getting students to think actively about safety; structured questioning. Includes examples of good practice and of problematic situations, and incorporated individualand group exercises. Although centred on the chemistry laboratory, the material may be applied over a wide range of practical science.
