Cleared for Take-Off
- Synopsis
- The programme covers the year leading up to the first flight. The Boeing 777 is the company’s latest attempt to stay ahead in the civil aviation field, in the face of competition from McDonnell Douglas and Airbus. The task is a difficult one, given by the company’s use of pioneering new design and management methods and accelerated test programme. Equinox looks at how the team try to establish the reliability and performance of two of the largest engines on civil airliners today; the repercussions of an engine backfire on the third engine test; the door seals that leaked when the plane was first pressurised. Follows on from 21ST CENTURY JET (1992).
