C F a Voysey: Voysey and Decoration

Synopsis
Voysey was an architect of the Arts and Crafts Movement who believed in enriching buildings by original ‘vernacular’ designs and who found inspiration in nature. He liked to have complete control not only of his buildings, but also of the interior fittings. His early designs for wallpapers and textiles featured flowing curves and came to influence continental Art Nouveau. His work after 1890 was characterised by simple, repeated forms, often of birds, trees, flowers and other aspects of everyday life. His 50 buildings were mostly houses and cottages, though designs for offices and factories are also represented.
