Charles Rennie Macintosh: A Modern Man
- Synopsis
- Profile of Scottish artist and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh to mark the centenary of his masterpiece, the Glasgow School of Art. Looks at Mackintosh’s youthful intellectual curiosity, early successes in Glasgow, detractors and allies, his devotion to his artist wife Margaret MacDonald, professional rejection and disillusionment, his consistent perfectionism, and his gathering dependence on alcohol. Terence Conran, Anthony Jones and other critics give their views. Shows Margaret MacDonald’s ‘The Seven Princesses’, a gesso panel discovered in 1995 buried in the cellar of Vienna’s Museum of Applied Arts.
