Migrating birds and animals can navigate over vast distances between their summer and winter habitats, and for years scientists hiave puzzles over how they do it. American research has shown that there is no single answer; these birds and animals use many reference points on their travels: the sun, stards, magnetic fields, polarised light, and even smells.
