- Sally Arthy reports from Westminster as Iraq’s invasion of Kuwait is condemned around the world. The United Nations Security Council has unanimously passed a resolution calling on Iraqi President, Saddam Hussein to withdraw his troops immediately and unconditionally. UK Foreign Secretary, Douglas Hurd has announced that all Kuwaiti assets in the UK have been frozen. Hurd speaks of the collective measures that will need to be taken should Iraq refuse to comply with the resolution. Labour foreign affairs spokesman Gerald Kaufman criticises the British Government for not acting sooner.
