- Summary
- Merchant vessels in the Mediterranean under the protection of British warships are on course for an unknown destination when enemy aircraft are spotted. "Action stations" is called and is the opening to 27 hours of continuous attacks. First torpedoes and then dive-bombing attacks, with the escort ships giving as good as they get. During the action the destroyer "Fearless" received a hit from a torpedo and had to be sunk. From the "Ark Royal" aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm take off to join battle with the enemy. After 60 hours at action stations the men were red-eyed, tired and unshaven but they carried out Admiral Somerville’s signal "The convoy must go through". "Rodney" or "Nelson" also seen in the action.
