- Summary
- The March of Time synopsis: The new issue of The March of Time contains a thought-provoking episode entitled "Amateur Sleuths", depicting the increasing interest of the American public in crime detection.
In contrast to the millions of ambitious amateurs who pride themselves on being master-mind detectives by solving hypothetical crimes, appeading in a widely-diversified selection of detective magazines, The March of Time shows the activities of a criminal detection laboratory in New Jersey, where a group of serious-minded citizens have formed a crime club, devoted to the solution of actual crimes in collaboration with the local police. Comprised of dentists, doctors, engineers, and chemists they have successfully solved over 300 baffling cases. Their latest invention of a comparison projector for the quick identification of finger prints is admittedly superior to anything of a like character in the laboratories of America’s Department of Justice. This unusual group of men have won public praise from J. Edgar Hoover, chief American "G-Man" and Professor Thorston Sellin, the criminologist professor of the University of Pennsylvania, who declares their efforts have made crime in the United States considerably more difficult. - Researcher Comments
