- Summary
- Rhodesian Spotlight synopsis: The well stocked trout streams of Inyanga draw fishermen from all over the Federation as soon as the Trout Season opens.
Rhodesian Spotlight Commentary - We’re in the Inyanga district, the Highlands of Southern Rhodesia. It’s good fishing country because of the work of the hatcheries which study and breed fish, later used to stock dams and rivers. Among them is the trout. The adults are used for breeding and the offspring are raised to the fingerling stage. Thanks to the research, the young trout thrive in the cold clear mountain streams. The opening of the fishing season brings keen fishermen and their families from all over the Federation - drawn as if by a magnet to a sport which has its own unique fascination. And usually within a matter of minutes your real dyed-in-the-wool trout fisherman is getting his rod ready.
At Inyanga’s altitude the air has an almost wine-like quality - crisp clean and invigorating - an open invitation to get out early and work the streams.
Here’s a beauty, well hooked. He’s over a pound, maybe a pound and a half, just wonderful for grilling with lots of butter. Life in the open air gives you an appetite and by the end of the day there’s plenty for everyone. Yes Sir, all this and fishing too, what more could a man want? - Keywords
