Summary
BFI synopsis: The highlight of this film is the Mobil Oil Company’s refinery at Coryton, a contract about which much has been written and spoken over several years, and yet scenes shown in the Review are still full of interest. The sequences include all phases of the work from the early days of the contract to the time when the refinery went on stream, the memorable floods of February, 1953, and the extensive flood prevention work which has followed. The final scenes are of the official opening on 27th May 1954 by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, who is seen arriving from London on board the Port of London Authority launch St. Katherine, touring the refinery and unveiling the commemorative plaque.
