Summary
NoS synopsis: Lancashire Miners’ Gala (beauty queens and wrestling)
NCB Commentary - No miners’ gala would be complete without bands and banners - or familiar face in the crowd.
Onto the field at Leigh in Lancashire troops the spearhead of the procession.
Mr. George Brown addresses the Lancashire Miners’ 3rd Annual Gala Day.
Sleeping was permitted, perhaps not on the platform, and certainly not in the wrestling ring - yes, we said ‘wrestling’.
On the platform contenders for the title of the Lancashire Miners’ Gala Queen were on parade.
In the ring it doesn’t pay to have long hair - this is called the short hair treatment.
Miss Parkside.
Unlike boxers, wrestlers keep on a bit of weight - to cushion themselves - no not against the impact of Miss Tyldesley - but against this sort of thing!
And if some of the audience took a tumble for Miss Cronton - there was plenty of tumbling in the grunt and groan area.
Miss Bold - by name if not by nature, and if only these fouled up gentelmen knew what they were missing on the platform.
Miss Bank Hall - a doll if ever there was one - and these guys are still at it.
Miss Atherton - men, you don’t know what else is going on around you.
Am I the winner - I ask you? Yer daft thing!
And finally Sheila Barlow was elected Gala Queen and enthroned by journalist Dee Wells - but believe it or not, none of the wrestlers got crowned by the ref.
