NCB Commentary - The Second Coal Handling Exhibition in London showed how coal and rail have modernised handling methods.
Today, over 75% of our coal is cut and loaded by machine. But mechanisation doesn’t end at the mine. The Coal Board, British Rail and the coal merchants have streamlined the handling of coal from colliery to consumer.
This means the coal of your choice, cleaned and graded, delivered where you want it, when you want it and packed how you want it.
Machines do the moving, the lifting, the bagging. They can pack coal in clean, disposable paper sacks, easy to handle and store at home.
This was Dr. Beeching’s last public engagement before handing over to his successor, Standley Raymond, Lord Robens was on hand to pay tribute to the service of his colleague.
Here’s a new crane that is built to overcome obstacles - just as coal and transport have tackled together the problems of handling our greatest natural asset. - Keywords
