Summary
BFI synopsis: George Brown, M.P. presents safety prizes in the Board’s East Midlands Division
NCB Commentary - It’s a quiet Sunday morning outside the Miners’ Welfare Centre at Church Gresley, but inside there’s serious business ... the East Midlands Coalfield’s 1964 Safety Prize Presentation.
In charge of proceedings was Divisional Chairman, Wilfred Miron.
The East Midlands win more coal, more safely, than any other Division in Britain.
George Brown, First Secretary of State is a local M.P. He spoke to the audience of miners.
Then came the prize giving £3000 worth, to 9 accident-free workmen from Donisthorpe and Church Gresley. The winners were drawn by ballot.
And then it was the turn of the whole Division.
(Miron speaks)
Applause for a job well done, and for a safety record which is a national example.
