- BFI synopsis: Yorkshire miner Andy Bretton who breeds Pomeranians
NCB Commentary - When Andy Betton comes off shift at Redbrook Colliery, near Barnsley, more often than not, he’s thinking about one thing - dogs.
Some days he stops off in the stores to cast a professional eye over a fellow-miner’s labradors.
While Andy’s at work, Mrs Betton is in charge of 17 prize Pomeranians. They’re the best house dogs - she says for their size they generate an almighty bark. And they’ll take on all comers.
The kennel behind the house is not only warm, but seventeen fold burglar-proof.
The Bettons have been exhibiting Pomeranians for longer than the can remember - and they could paper their walls with awards.
If there’s interference on the TV screen, Mrs. Betton has two more picture channels down below - an unusual kennel she bought some years ago.
When Andy gets home there’s a reception committee waiting for him - and friendly barks for the man of the house. Data Laddy champion of the pack, has earned his weight in silver cups. It’s warm house, but just to make sure Adny gets blanketed with Pomeranians whether he likes it or not.
It costs the Bettons £3 a week to feed the Poms - and meal times are rather like running a coal mine - it has to be done on the shift system. - Keywords
