- Summary
- BFI synopsis: a party of miners suffering from pneumoconiosis on holiday at Rimini, Italy (463).
NCB Commentary - High on the list of dangers in coal-mining is dust. The very fine particles can cause pneumoconiosis, a lung disease. In this condition breathing exercises may be helpful.
This summer the Nottinghamshire Area of the National Union Miners paid for a party of miners to visit Rimini in Italy, as part of their convalescence.
The beach is full of distractions, but for the miners breathing exercises are the order of the day.
This work over, they can now relax on a sight-seeing tour. On every hand the scenery is vastly different from back home.
Their destination is the pocket-size Republic of San Marino, with its Castle towering above the Romagna Plain.
Mr. Scott, in-charge of the party, points out the sights from a handy balcony.
Even sight-seeing is thirsty work and the San Marino sun produces a healthy thirst - for an expresson coffee - or a nice bottle of a local San Marino vintage.
Here’s wishing good health to the men from Nottinghamshire - and to miners everywhere suffering from pneumoconiosis. - Researcher Comments
