Summary
BFI synopsis: a coal handling exhibition at Marylebone Freight Yard shows the latest mechanical equipment for surface handling (243).
NCB Commentary - This summer at London’s Marylebone Freight Yard, Lord Robens with Dr. Beeching opened the Coal Handling Exhibition.
The Exhibition demonstrated how the problems of handling coal are being vigourously explored and streamlined - a far coalman’s cry from the sweat and muscle mishandling of the past.
Here’s one way - since many coal yards have no electrical supply, a generator can be fitted to this machine which lifts and tips the coal.
A model of the Trucks-a-Daisy shows how coal merchants can have a simple, safe and economical means of emptying coal wagons. For winter use a propane heater can be fitted to thaw the ice seal between coal and truck.
And for the householder - accurately weighed coal in strong paper sacks. The bags are stitched automatically. An ideal packaging for the small user with limited storage space.
To first weigh the coal, and to take some of the load of weight-lifters shoulders, this sack lifter can hoist its load eight feet.
