- BFI synopsis: Sir James Bowman, Chairman of the N.C.B. at Brynlliw colliery, with is re-opened after 35 years.
NCB Commentary - Brynlliw Colliery - abandoned in 1927 - is a coal producing unit again.
Below ground 7,500 yards of new tunnels have already been driven to reach the 40 million tons of coal which still remain.
New tunnelling machines and new techniques have been employed and the pit which ceased production 35 years ago was commissioned again by Sir James Bowman, Chairman of the National Coal Board (on the far side).
