BFI synopsis: The North-Western Division rugby league final between Bickershaw Colliery and Sutton Manor Colliery. Sutton won.
NCB Commentary - On a dull May evening Leigh Club ground sees the finals of the North Western Divison Rugby League Competition, as 26 intrepid miners run out onto the pitch.
This year’s finalists in the 13-a-side game are Bildershaw, who lost to Giant’s Hall last year, and Sutton Manor who, in their first season in rugby league are described in the programme as a "determined bunch of warriors". And they need to be. If you’ve got the ball in this game anything can happen to you. For those who don’t know, Rugby League is a very different game from Rugby Union and some people say ... - but we’re not arguing about that now.
After 90 minutes in a game where the honours - and the knocks - were pretty evenly shared, Sutton Manor turned up winners, 6 points to 5. Nice work from a team or promising youngsters, who’ve done a lot to encourage this kind of rugger in the mining industry up North. - Keywords
