Summary
NoS Summary - Cameraman risks life and limb riding on a timber chute
British Pathe synopsis: "But, before we shot the chute, our Cameraman "shot" this..." Landscape shot - forest. M/S of a very large tree falling in the forest after being felled. "If business interferes with pleasure - give up business!" M/S of group of workers dancing on the top of a huge tree trunk - the flat edge after being felled. A woman holds a spade and pretends to be playing it like a guitar. The couples dance and sing. "And now for this grand Sierra Chute - even young Bill in his wildest dreams never visualised this risky ride. (It is 65 miles in length.)" M/S of men rolling a log into the water chute. Point of view shot as the cameraman makes his way down the chute on top of a log. M/S of the back of the cameraman as he turns the camera handle whilst moving along the chute. Point of view shot as the cameraman moves at speed down the water chute. L/S showing the length of the chute - it is very long and almost looks like a bridge in the distance - there is a river below. "Speeds up to 60 miles an hour are frequently reached...(and a fall over the side doesn’t bear thinking about.)" Fast moving shot. View of a cameraman moving down the chute perched on a log - seen from another moving viewpoint. Another point of view shot of the chute. M/S of the cameraman travelling along.
