Summary
NoS Summary - wine harvest in France - people at work in the fields then relaxing
British Pathe synopsis: "In Bourgogne, we found them, gathering the luscious fruit for the great wine industry." L/S of group of people (men and women) gathering grapes. M/S of woman bending down to pick grapes from the vine. She eats one. "Not all the grapes will reach the bottle" said one little girl." M/S of a little girl kneeling beside a grape vine eating grapes. M/S of woman tipping grapes from her basket into a larger basket held by a man. "The heavy work is, of course, left to Adam - " Two men lift a heavy metal container of grapes. It is attached to a pole and they carry it on their shoulders. They approach a horse drawn cart and put the metal container on the cart. M/S of the cart passing the camera. Two girls and the man sit on the back on top of the containers of grapes. "And, at the end of the day, the long trail back to quarters with the last wagon of grapes - " High angle shot of the workers walking through the fields with the horse and cart. Two children sit on the cart. M/S view of the workers walking away from the camera. "Then, the evening repast, with plenty to eat - and no less to drink " L/S of the workers sitting outside under the shade of some trees. They sit around a long table. "An improvised platform, a ready entertainer, and a cheery audience, bring the wine harvesters’ day to a successful conclusion." High angle L/S of the workers sitting at the table. A man gets up and stands on a barrel. He is either telling jokes or singing a song. Various shots of him on top of the barrel. They applaud as he ends his performance.
