Summary
British Pathe synopsis: "Every good (and bad) Citizen of our Northern Seaport knows of the 1 o’clock time gun - watches and clocks galore are set by it." L/S of a rural scene - cows in a field. Low angle shot of a strange building with large domes. M/S of man inside this building operating machinery. It is presumably a place where the time is set. L/S of a cannon on top of an emplacement. In the distance the Liver Building can be seen. The cannon is loaded. C/U of man standing beside some kind of timepiece. He flicks a switch. The cannon is fired. M/S of group of men looking at watches and timetables. Elderly men in some kind of non-military uniform. C/U of them checking their fob watches. C/U of two men on the deck of a ship checking their watches. L/S of the Liver building. "To the good Liverpudlian, the world seems to stand still as the fatal seconds pass by - " M/S of men with timetables. "Far and wide its message is blown - and if it’s Saturday, what a rush!" Sped up footage of Liverpool traffic follows. Trams, cars, pedestrians seem to rush around the screen. A passenger ferry called the "Marlowe" arrives at the quayside. Passengers rush off, new passengers rush on (sped up). Fast footage of boat moving away from the camera.
