Summary
NoS Summary - Fabric and shoes are made from tree bark in Uganda
British Pathe synopsis: M/S of native African man using primitive hand tool to slice bark from a small tree. M/S of man bringing the bark towards the camera to show it off. "The bark is then beaten into a more pliable form." M/S of group of men crouching on the ground. One beats the bark with a wooden mallet. "A nice dress length" Man in safari suit and pith helmet and his wife are shown a large piece of fabric - presumably made from bark. "And for shoes - why, just chop them out before lunch!" M/S of man crouching on the ground using a primitive hand tool to chop at a piece of bark. C/U of man carving bark. He shows the camera what he has made - the sole of a shoe. Native African strides towards the camera from his hut. C/U of two bark shoes on the ground. "Watertight - no! Useful - yes!" The man holds the shoes up to the camera. He puts the shoes on and strides off in them.
