Summary
NoS Summary - Craft demonstration - how to make skeleton leaves.
British Pathe synopsis: C/U of woman holding a branch, she pulls a leaf from the branch.
"Just soak the leaves in water for five or six weeks." C/U of leaves being put into a bowl of water. C/U of woman taking a leaf out of water. She rubs the leaf then puts it into another bowl of water. C/U of her hand as she smoothes a wet leaf out.
"Then clean off the leaf matter from the membrane. (A simple job, but use a delicate touch!)" C/U of woman’s hands as she lays the leaves out on a plate and rubs away at them. There seems to be water on the plate too. She gradually rubs away all the leaf matter to leave a skeleton leaf.
"After the membrane is clear - it may be soaked in chloride of lime for a couple of days - this will whiten it - " C/U of woman placing white leaf membranes on a dark piece of card. She folds the card and presses it down. C/U of leaves lying on the dark card. Woman sticks the leaves onto a dark background to make a picture.
"When dry, these phantom leaves may be used in many ways - artistic table decorations, under glass tops, etc." C/U of leaf membrane. C/U of table top with leaves under the glass.
