Summary
NoS Summary - Joe Noble animation about men becoming more feminine in their dress.
British Pathe synopsis: Animation by Joe Noble. "Adam is fond of designing Eve’s clothes - why shouldn’t she have a try at Adam’s? What a revolution in the appearance of..." Stop frame animation is used to show a hand making a drawing magically appear. The subject is "Good Old Johnnie Bull." The drawing has the caption "Under the critical eye of Eve, we foresee some drastic changes in his dress F’rinstance..." Another drawing takes shape. "The hat - striking in its sweeping lines - a multiwinged ruching of Petersham gives a delicate touch of refinement. The Coatee in white, grey, foxglove or Bois de Rose is chic, completing an ensemble suitable for every occasion. The trousers can be reversed for golf." John Bull wears a rather effeminate outfit. "Take a peep at Adam when his evening dress becomes ..."Eve" - ning dress. To start with, a Georgian wig gives a courtier air. The coat of navy faille is cut low in front and has the new streamline Magyar sleeves. A delightful cascade motif is carried out by wearing six waistcoats." A drawing of a man in black tie and suit changes into a man in a silly wig and ridiculous outfit. "Seen from the back the effect is even worse." - back view. Picture of a villainous looking man is accompanied by the text: "But Eve caters for all classes and no longer will Bill Sykes be content with the old Borstal regalia of hobnailed boots and his eyes served up with red worsted. No, no, here we have..." Picture of a fantasy outfit is accompanied by the text: "A three piece utility suit for the well dressed cat burglar. The coat is of fine wool romain with a basque scalloped to match the hem. The mask is of crêpe marocain edged with pleating of galvanised iron. The muffler is of pique. A feature of the ensemble is the bustle in which is carried the swag. Operated by a "zip" fastener, it can be detached, filled with sand and thrown thro’ a wireless shop window." A drawing of a bizarre weapon has the caption: "The bludgeon is trimmed with silver diamante - Maison Joble." Intertitle reads: "Who knows, we might all "go feminine!" Animated sequence shows the burglar in his new outfit unzipping his swag bustle and throwing it through the window of Cohen’s Wireless shop. A policeman spots him and a chase ensues. The policeman hits him over the head and the burglar sees stars. The burglar says "It’s a fair cop" and offers to give the policeman his address. The policeman replies that what he really wants is the address of the burglar’s milliner!
