Summary
NoS Summary - The latest fashions on show at a French racecourse.
British Pathe synopsis: "Everybody knows what a big French Racecourse is for - to display the world and his wife to their best fashionable advantage." Travelling shot from a car of traffic driving away from L’arc de Triomphe in Paris. M/S of group of very smartly dressed people sitting on, and standing around a horse drawn carriage. The men wear suits and hats, the women their Sunday best. Camera follows a woman in a floaty white dress as she passes. "Here, far from the madding crowd (of race enthusiasts) Eve may stroll about in complete serenity!" L/S of group of women in floaty frocks. M/S of three women posing in their best frocks. "What matters if the favourite does lose - why compare such trivial things with the all-important latest hats, or gowns?" M/S of three other girls posing in their outfits. Another three pose. They wear semi-transparent dresses. The cameraman has cleverly shot them with the sun behind so that we can see their legs as the dresses become "see through". They walk away from the camera. L/S of long line of women in their best outfits. "Somewhere, there is a race, but no lady worries!" High angle shot of a horse race. More outfits displayed including a white fur trimmed jacket and a lace hat. A woman in a dark hat bends to smell a flower. M/S of vast crowds milling around. M/S of woman in fox fur looking out over the crowds.
